Yet another state leader, the French president Emmanuel Macron tasted the delightfully refreshing and elegantly sweet wine of the United Winemaking Agricultural Cooperative of Samos, the multi-awarded Samos Grand Cru, during the official dinner given in his honor at the Presidential Mansion, on Thursday September 7th, 2017.
The carefully selected menu included dishes of French cuisine mostly, with a few Greek “notes” which seemed to make the difference: Sole fillet meuriere and veal fillets garnished with vegetables sautéed in butter and topped with truffle sauce. The dinner concluded delightfully with ice cream saint honore and seasonal fruits, accompanied by the most important ambassador of Samos wines, the topaz-colored Samos Grand Cru! It is produced from well matured grapes of the distinctive variety “White Muscat”, grown on selected semi-mountainous vineyards of Samos.
It is worth mentioning that in 2015 the French president at the time Francois Hollande was enthused about the Samos Grand Cru wine, which accompanied the dessert at the official dinner that was given in his honor at the Presidential Palace during his visit to Greece.
Furthermore, the president of the United States Barack Obama enjoyed the sweet wine Samos Grand Cru from the United Winemaking Agricultural Cooperative of Samos at the dinner given in his honor by the president of the republic Karolos Papoulias during his official visit to Greece in 2015.
Adding to the list, Jack Lang, minister of the government of François Mitterrand, a personal friend of Melina Merkouri and a long-time friend of the Greeks, in a statement supporting the candidacy of Samos for European Capital of Culture, said:
“…Pythagoras, Aristarhos, Efpalinos, and the famous Samos wine made the name of Samos synonymous to wisdom, innovation, inventiveness and efficiency…”«…Pythagore, Aristarchus, Eupalinos , mais aussi le fameux vin de Samos ont fait que le nom de Samos signifie sagesse, innovation, inventivité et efficacité…»
And as the poet Lord Byron wrote: “Fill high the bowl with Samian wine!”
