Title: International recognition from Jancis Robinson and the Financial Times
During the celebration of the 60 years since the foundation of the Masters of Wine Institute, Mrs Jancis Robinson, a Master of Wine herself, honored the wines of Samos by triumphantly praising the Samos Nectar special vintage 1980 in her column in one of the most recognized and respectable newspapers in the world, the Financial Times.
Wines from all over the world were selected for the celebration, the purpose being to taste and evaluate them. The UWC SAMOS was asked to send the sweet Samos Nectar, from sun-dried grapes, but, due to the particularity of the event, an older vintage with no commercial avaialability in the market was requested. Samos Nectar 1980 not only impressed the Masters of Wine from all over the world who tasted it but its rating was so high, 19 out of 20, that it classified Greece, as a wine producing country, in the first position. Once more, it is a great honor for us to place our country in first place.
Mrs Jancis Robinson refers to a rare product made by sun-dried small-berried Muscat grapes, pointing out its reddish tawny color, its butterscotch aromas and its
refreshing character owed to its beautifully balanced acidity.
It is needless to mention the satisfaction and pride felt firstly by all the hard-working producers of Samos and followed by the winemakers and staff of the UWC SAMOS who contribute, as a team, to our experiencing such moments of worldwide recognition.
