Title: This year, once again, the UWC Samos Wines swept up the awards all over the world
What is going on every year with the wines from Samos? They are being more and more awarded in countries such as France, China, England, Monaco, Germany, Belgium and, of course, Greece. And not unjustly, since the sweet wines of the island, which represent the biggest part of its wine production, are included amongst the best sweet wines of the world and definitely amongst the best of the white Muscat variety! The 2013 award harvest for the wines of the UWC of Samos amounted to, not one or two, but 25 distinctions, more than half of them being gold or double gold medals!
More specifically, the sweet wine Samos Doux 2011 received a gold medal at the French competition Challenge International du Vin, while its 2012 vintage was awarded gold at the China Wine Awards and at the Thessaloniki Wine Competition, and silver at the English magazine competition Decanter, as well as at the Belgian competition Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.
Samos Nectar received gold medals at the German Berliner Wein Trophy competition for the 2007 vintage and at the Challenge International du Vin for the 2008 vintage, while the 2009 vintage got a double gold medal at the China Wine Awards, a gold medal at 3 competitions, the Thessaloniki Wine Competition, the Women & Wines of the World competition and the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.
Samos Anthemis, vintage 2006, won the silver medal at the Challenge International du Vin, whereas the 2007 vintage received double gold at the China Wine Awards and silver at the Decanter competition and at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.
Our last but not least crowned sweet wine is Samos Grand Cru 2011. It got a silver medal at the Berliner Wein Trophy, whereas its 2012 vintage won a gold medal at the Decanter competition, the Women & Wines of the World competition and the Thessaloniki competition. It was awarded silver at the China Wine Awards.
Whoever thinks that Samos means exclusively sweet wine is wrong, since the dry white wine Psiles Korfes 2012 won a double gold medal at the China Wine Awards, a gold medal at the Women & Wines of the World competition and finally a “Recommended Acquisition Trophy Award” at the Decanter competition. As for the classic Golden Samena vintage 2012, it was awarded a gold medal at the China Wine Awards.
One would say “Keep up the good work!” since the grapes will gradually show themselves in the vines of Samos and everything will be ready for the vintage 2013 wines, while the sweet wines are ageing in the barrels at the beautiful island of Pythagoras.
