Title: Awards and Distinctions 2012
Date Added: 2012-06-18

Once again this year, the success from the awards and distinctions harvest for the Union of Winemaking Cooperatives of Samos can be measured in quantity as well as quality and significance. Having received the results from all the competitions the wines were sent to, it is worth mentioning them quickly. Starting from Greece, in the International Wine Competition in Thessaloniki (northern Greece) the wines Samos Anthemis 2006 and Samos Nectar 2008 obtained gold medals. The Samos Nectar 2008 brought in a distinction of great significance not only for the wines of Samos but also for Greek wine, in general, and Greek sweet wine, more specifically. It was awarded with a Grand Gold medal and it was was also classified as Best Sweet Wine in the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. The competition was fierce with thousands of samples sent in to compete. In the same competition, the dry wine Psiles Korfes (High Peaks) received a silver medal. Moving on to the competition Vinalies Internationales in Paris, three wines stood out here. The Samos Nectar 2007 and the Samos Vin Doux 2010 received gold medals and the Samos Anthemis 2005 silver. Staying in European territory, the United Kingdom showered Samos with awards this year: the competition International Wine and Spirits with three silver medals (Samos Vin Doux 2011, Samos Anthemis 2006 and Samos Nectar 2008) and the International Wine Challenge with five! They went to the wines Samos Vin Doux 2011 (silver), Samos Anthemis 2006 (bronze), Samos Grand Cru 2011 (bronze), Samos Nectar 2008 (bronze) and the dry Psiles Korfes (High Peaks) 2011 (commended). Again from the U.K., one of the most respected wine magazines in the world, Decanter, awarded the wines Samos Vin Doux 2011 with a bronze, Samos Anthemis 2006 as commended, Samos Grand Cru 2011 with a silver and Samos Nectar 2008 also with a silver. Last but definitely not least, the competition Selections Mondiales des Vins Canada gave two gold awards to the Samos Vin Doux 2011 and Samos Nectar 2008.
