Title: “Psiles Korfes” dry wine agressively enters markets
The Union of Winemaking Cooperatives of Samos has been known world-wide over the years for its Dessert wines from the Muscat petit-grain grape. However, the new addition of the dry white wine "Psilles Korfes" (High Peaks) is signalling a new age in the history of winemaking on Samos.
Ever since this wine was launched in the market (about two years ago), its strong aromas and fresh lively taste have been the main reasons for its success both in the Greek domestic market and in other markets around the world. The instant success of this wine, which appeals to both wine experts and a much wider consumer base, is the result of the rigorous selection of the Muscat grapes from the mountainous vineyards of Samos and the excellent winemaking that the Union has been famous for.
On a national level, “Psiles Korfes” has already been welcomed by well-known Greek restaurants which have included it in their wine lists. Especially important is considered its listing in the Duty Free Shops in the two main airports of Athens and Thessaloniki. It is worth mentioning that up until today the only wine of the Union that was listed in the Duty Free Shops was the sweet Samos Vin Doux. This is the first time that a dry white from Samos has made it to the shelves of the airport shops. The shelf space of these shops, apart from being very good selling points, are also an excellent means of promotion and advertising to Greek as well as foreign travellers.
Outside the Greek borders, Belgium and Germany have responded very well to this wine which has recently entered the Chinese market as well (it was listed in the product portfolio of the government-owned company Cosco). The feedback for the sales of Psiles Korfes in China is already encouraging which is very important for a newcomer into the market.
Concluding, “Psiles Korfes” vintage 2008 performed very well in wine competitions that took place in 2009 in Great Britain, one of the most demanding wine markets in the world. Awards were received in all three British Competitions - The International Wine & Spirit Competition, The International Wine Challenge and The Decanter World Wine Awards. Furthermore, in a special tasting of Greek white wines organised by the Decanter this summer, "Psilles Korfes" was awarded 4 stars and marked "Highly Recommended".
