Title: Anthemis 2002 in Waitrose
A great success for the Union’s sweet wine Anthemis 2002 was its introduction to the wine listing of the well-known and particularly selective chain of Waitrose stores in November 2008. More specifically, a special packaging of a 375 ml bottle enclosed in its own individual box was designed exclusively for Waitrose and was listed in two central stores of the Waitrose chain in London. The sales of the wines were quite satisfactory during the Christmas period and the feedback was positive. It is expected that the product will be listed in more stores in 2009. Waitrose are particularly focused on wine and play a key role in the U.K. market which is considered to be less than favourable for Greek wine. Therefore, the success of the listing of the Anthemis 2002, which was the result of actions taken by the Union’s representative in the U.K., Mrs Mary Pateras / Eclectic Wines, is multiplied in significance. Apart from the direct benefit for the Union, this generally constitutes a boost for Greek wine in the tough and highly competitive market of Great Britain.
